*Market Assistant Job Description*
Now in its 38th year of operation, the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market (RVGCM) is a mutual benefit domestic nonprofit organization, with a membership of over 100 farmers, ranchers, specialty food producers and handcraft artisans. RVGCM hosts three outdoor farmers markets as well as winter markets in Ashland and Medford, providing its members with the facilities, sites, and services to bring products sourced from Jackson, Josephine, and Siskiyou Counties direct to consumers. Through product variety and sales, members and staff educate the public about agricultural commodities and produce seasonality. Working with grant funded programs, RVGCM additionally connects low income individuals and families with funds to be spent on fresh and healthy produce and proteins from local farmers and ranchers, making markets truly accessible to all, and contributing to more food-secure communities.
The MARKET ASSISTANT enables the Market Site Manager to efficiently perform the duties of market days and ensure smooth operations of all weekly markets hosted by the Rogue Valley Growers & Crafters Market (RVGCM). The MARKET ASSISTANT supports running the market information booth and helps patrons with EBT, debit/credit transactions, as well as provides directions and general market information. The MARKET ASSISTANT is required to help set up and break down market equipment and signage on market days. The MARKET ASSISTANT may be cross trained to fill in for the Market Site Manager should they need to take leave during the season, and cross trained on some duties of the Operations Manager if assistance or coverage of that role is required. The MARKET ASSISTANT is expected to be familiar with and understand the bylaws, guidelines and policies of the organization and help enforce the policies therein.

*Responsibilities & Duties*
Include but are not limited to the following:
• Assists Market Site Manager with set-up and breakdown of market operations equipment
and signage each market day. May include daily transportation of some market materials and
equipment to market sites.
• Assists with all on-site day-of operations of the market ensuring smooth operation with
adherence to organizational guidelines.
• Conducts daily sales and financial transactions, including customer EBT and credit card
transactions and assists with daily reimbursement to vendors for grant subsidized pass-
through funds.
• Assists Market Site Manager with collecting vendor booth fees.
• Assists Market Site Manager with day-end reports.
• Serves as a resource to members and vendors on market days, directing vendors to the
correct stall spaces and answering questions.
• Assists Market Site Manager with the enforcement of RVGCM policies.
• Represents the market to the public, giving excellent customer service.
• Collaborates with and is a resource for market volunteers.
• Maintains cleanliness of information booth and all market areas.
• Once trained, is available to fill in for the Market Site Manager when needed. Some cross
training of other operational duties may be required.
• Participates in regular staff meetings and other meetings as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications & Skills*
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to do mathematical calculations and cash handling in a fast paced environment, and
run EBT equipment with training.
• Excellent organizational skills and time management, detail oriented.
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, including working with all types of
individuals with different personalities and objectives.
• Comfortable with a high level of physical activity and wide range of weather conditions and
temperatures.
• Able to stand/walk on pavement and/or ground for long periods of time. Able to regularly lift
up to 50 lbs. Able to bend, squat, kneel, push, carry, lift arms above head, and other full
range of motion for the purpose of setting up and breaking down equipment.
• Ability to be punctual for early morning start times.
• Flexible, positive, professional attitude and ability to handle a fast changing, sometimes
stressful environment.
• Ability to work as part of a team and to take direction.
• Valid Oregon drivers license, good driving record, proof of insurance, and own reliable vehicle is a must.
• Ability to track work time and complete daily time sheet.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn Rogue Valley agricultural trends and crop seasonality.
• Dedication to inclusion and equity in both individual and organizational practice.
• CPR Certification (can be acquired after hiring).
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
*Job Type: *part time hourly, seasonal (9 months, March-November). Annual contract basis.
*Salary: *$18/hour. Biweekly pay schedule.

• Tuesdays, ScienceWorks in Ashland, 6:00am-2:30pm (March-November)
• Thursdays, Hawthorne Park in Medford, 6:00am-2:30pm (March-November)
_In case of Market Site Manager absence only, some coverage hours as needed:_
• Saturdays, Oak St. & East Main in Ashland, 6:30am-2:00pm (May-October)
