Job Overview

This position oversees Parking Attendants and/or Traffic Controllers and is responsible for coordinating staff deployment, giving post instructions, assessing parking and traffic conditions and ensures exceptional customer service for employees and visitors to create a positive experience


Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Analyzes traffic and parking patterns and flows. Implement traffic control and/or parking strategies to ensure efficient traffic flow and maximize parking spaces.
  • Coordinates with management when needed.
  • • Contacts perspective job applicants, conduct interviews, make recommendations for hiring Support the selection, training, leadership, and guidance of staff at various events
  • Oversee logistical operations at events, including maintaining inventory, managing equipment and staffing requirements.
  • Address inquiries from the public, department representatives, and employees regarding both confidential and non-confidential information. 
  •  Prepare written communications, reports, forms, and statistical data such as charts, tables, and graphs Complete staffing timesheets and review payroll hours for manager approval. 
  • Analyze and create post-event instructions for employees. 
  •  Conduct quality control inspections during events.
  • Assess employee performance at events. Report all traffic and parking safety conditions, signage requirements, accidents, or incidents. Assist in the completion of Incident/Accident Reports 
  •  Schedules staff according to the event, number of posts, and time spans
  • Communicate effectively with staff to coordinate the flow of traffic and ensure parking space usage is maximized
  • Ensures proper traffic control practices and regulations are followed and ensures pedestrian safety.
  • Controls and directs the flow of vehicles on the street and parking areas.
  •  Provide clear guidance to drivers approaching traffic control zone and parking lots.
  •  Stays alert and maneuvers quickly to avoid danger from unsafe drivers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of parking lots and traffic posts, including removing litter and debris. Set-up, positions, and removes traffic cones, traffic signs, barricades, to divert traffic.
  • Greets staff at the beginning of shifts and conducts a briefing with essential daily critical updates.
  • Models the behavior, procedures, and processes expected of the staff members.
  • Maintains a professional appearance in compliance with uniform guidelines. Assist with customer questions, complaints, or concerns, providing customer service in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requests as needed.

Qualifications

    • Minimum 1 years prior supervision experience.
    • 1 years prior experience with parking and traffic control.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment, professionalism, organizational and problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude.
    • The ability to adapt to change and make decisions under pressure.
    • Ability to interact with patrons in a calm pleasant professional manner to address concerns.
    • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
    • Open availability for the run of the San Diego County fair.
    • Traffic Certification required (class is provided).


    Working Conditions

    • Stand, walk and move for sustained periods. Work may entail walking several miles a shift to check on staff at various locations.
    • Repetitive motions using hands wrists and/or arms.
    • Works outdoors and is exposed to weather conditions, dust, dirt, and exhaust fumes.
    • Involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk that require following safety precautions.
    • Ability to adapt to changing situations as needed.
    • At times work involves dealing with rude and irritated customers and a polite and calm manner to try and resolve issues and concerns.
    • Must be able to address issues with staff as needed when they are not following rules and/or procedures.
    • Works a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and holidays when necessary.
