As an independent cheese shop (in Pittsburgh, PA!) we consider ourselves storytellers. We strive to generate excitement for and understanding of each and every cheese that comes through our case. We want to create a valuable experience for our customers; one that emphasizes the importance of artisan production, of sustainable agriculture, of the fresh cut. After all, cheese is a unique, complex creation; the resulting deliciousness a product of simple ingredients in the hands of dedicated farmers and cheesemakers, the caretakers of centuries worth of tradition.
Our cheesemongers are knowledgeable and passionate people, who share their enthusiasm for cheese with each person who comes through our doors – no matter where a customer might be in their personal cheese journey. That is to say, we are storytellers, not gatekeepers.

We’re looking for someone who will be a great fit within our team, and who will represent us well at local farmers markets. Someone with a vibrant passion for cheese who _loves_ _to share_ that passion. Knowledge is important, but so is an eagerness to learn. Experience is important, but so is the flexibility to adapt and to work together. Customer service skills matter, but so does heart.
We are looking for a problem solver with a positive attitude who is self-motivated and can make productive use of “down-time.” Someone who is ambitious enough to lead and humble enough to follow. A hard worker who will stock shelves, clean dishes, make sandwiches, chat with customers, and fill in all the little gaps.
*Our goals:*
We are searching for a part-time employee to split time between our shop and our farmers markets. We are focused toward building an environment of positivity and creativity, one that offers opportunity to learn and grow as people, as cheesemongers, and as a business. This position will fill a short-term need for our business, but we hope to find someone who will thrive in it. Ideally this role will be a stepping stone for our next full-time cheesemonger.
*The position:*
Time will be split between our retail location and our two farmers markets - The Bloomfield Saturday Market (every Saturday 9am-1pm) and the Squirrel Hill Farmers Market (every Sunday 9am-1pm.) The primary roles of this position are retail/customer service and providing assistance to our more experienced staff during the busy holiday season.
We are offering a $15/hr pay rate, and employees also receive a 30% discount at the store.
Major responsibilities of this position include:
* Availability to work 20-28 hours per week
* Availability to work a variable seasonal schedule, including:
* Holidays and weekends
* Saturday 7am - 3pm shifts
* Sunday 7am - 3pm shifts
* Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
* Assisting experienced cheesemongers with various tasks as needed
* Answering the phone
* Restocking shelves with awareness
* Miscellaneous and routine cleaning tasks (dishes, sweeping, mopping, etc.)
* Light amount of sandwich prep, using panini grill
* Bringing good vibes
* Working with a team, which includes:
* Being comfortable with listening to and responding to constructive criticism
* Being outspoken enough to give constructive criticism together with delivering necessary support to help each other grow and develop skills
* Having fun
* Sharing
* Tasting and learning our inventory
* Delivering exceptional, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service to everyone who walks through our doors
* Sampling cheese and other products while sharing stories
* Reading and learning
*Physical requirements:*
* Ability to lift 100+ pounds of cheese, boxes, coolers, etc.
* Able to stand/be on their feet for 8+ hours
* Walking up and down flights of stairs
* Cutting cheese and slicing meat using deli slicer
* Bend, squat, twist, reach, cut for the duration of your shifts.
*Qualifications:*
* One (1) year grocery or retail specialty experience, or
* Two (2) years food service or hospitality experience
* Driver’s License
* Must be able to work weekends and holidays. We are closed Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, Christmas Day and Dec 26th (unless it’s a Saturday,) New Year’s Day
