This is a part-time position responsible for assisting with the coordination of Canton Township's Farmers Market, Community Garden programming, and various related special events. Work assignments will occur at various locations, including Preservation Park, Summit on the Park, Village Theater at Cherry Hill, Canton Sports Center, B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center, and Pheasant Run Golf Course.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)
Plan, Supervise, and Coordinate the Canton Farmers Market and related programs and activities as assigned
Coordinate the set-up, tear-down, and clean-up of programs and events
Build professional relationships with vendors, staff, volunteers, and guests
Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling, evaluating, and supervising part-time/seasonal staff as directed
Recommend purchase of programs supplies and equipment for programs and activities
Develop and administer safety rules, policies, regulations, and procedures for both employees and the general public
Professionally prepare information and reports
Maintain accurate program, activity, and equipment records
Responsible for remaining aware of community needs and current trends related to Farmers Markets and the recreation field to ensure the delivery of quality customer service
Ensure that proper ADA accommodations are being met related to program and facility resources
Responsible for the enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures, and policies
Responsible for responding to, communicating, and documenting incidents and emergency situations, including, but not limited to, First Aid, Severe Weather, and Missing Child events
Safely drive and operate Township vehicles
Prioritizing and performing multiple tasks, assignments, and deadlines
Training and managing volunteers
Detailed management of, and reporting related to food assistance programs, including but not limited to, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Double Up Food Bucks
Participation and involvement with local and regional organizations like the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA) and mParks
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Minimum of 18 years of age
High School Graduate or GED Required
Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions of reckless driving, careless driving, a suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving
Minimum of 2 years of experience in planning special events and logistics, meetings, or other professional related programming
Ability to work a wide variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays, with an emphasis on Sundays during the regular Market Season, which runs from May through October each year
Previous customer service experience required, supervisory experience preferred
Experience with cash-handling, grant work, data entry, and report-writing preferred
Strong organizational, and both written and verbal, communication skills required
Must be able to possess or earn CPR and First Aid Certifications within 60 days of employment
Ability to perform manual lifting and loading of program supplies and equipment
Skills to quickly learn and manage recreation software applications and website content
Willingness and ability to problem-solve, and work both independently, and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Ability to convey a positive and professional image to staff and community members at all times
Ability to execute policies and procedures with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner
Ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with assigned programs and activities
Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner
This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints, and staff availability.

This is a part-time job opportunity. Part-time employees can work up to 29 hours per week year-round. Work hours, however, will be solely determined based on workload and availability.
This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position will be classified as part-time employees.
