Note: This position is contingent upon grant funding. Successful candidate will be headquartered at the nearest WVDA location.
Nature of Work:
|
Responsible for oversight of all aspects of Produce Safety including coordinating inspections throughout the state, educating agency personnel and stakeholders involved with Produce Safety, and coordinating outreach and On-Farm Readiness Reviews.

Examples of Work:
|
- Oversee inspections across the state related to program(s) safety.
- Work with the Data Verification Specialist to ensure that the annual produce inventory is completed.
- Supervise all staff in the Produce Safety at the WVDA.
- Manage inspection areas for inspection across the state.
- Oversee inspectors and ensure that current training records for all inspectors are maintained.
- Work with Compliance Officer and FDA to resolve non-compliant inspections or egregious findings.
- Maintain and update all forms and related software for inspections.
- Coordinate all On-Farm Readiness Reviews.
- Complete all necessary reports and paperwork and submit to the FDA by the deadline.
- Coordinate and assist with training and outreach related to the Produce Safety Program.
- Act as a liaison between all divisions and agencies involved in the Produce Safety.
- Maintain and update all laws and rules associated with produce safety, including working with legislators.
- Respond to consumer complaints regarding products regulated by WVDA.
- Work with local health departments as necessary.
- Work with all stakeholders as necessary.
- Oversee all reports and documents required to be completed after inspections.
- Be proficient in numerous computer programs to complete all inspections and enter inspection data at all firms.
- Attend meetings related to Produce Safety.
- Work within an assigned territory; however, may be required to cover additional territory at the discretion of division management.
- Approve time sheets, leave requests, travel expense settlements and all other forms required in a timely manner.

Working Conditions:
|
Frequently bend, squat, stand, sit, climb, kneel, reach above shoulder level, push/pull and/or walk for extended periods of time, and ability to lift/carry 50 pounds. Possible work in extreme weather including heat, cold, rain, and snow in various outdoor settings including farmers markets under a shelter or tent, mobile farmers markets, farm stands, warehouses, and any other numerous product facilities regulated by the WVDA READ. Some travel including overnight stays required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
|
- Proficient knowledge of computer programs and required skills.
- Knowledge of WV Code Chapter 19 relating to duties and responsibilities of the WVDA and the Regulatory and Environmental Affairs Division.
- Knowledge of FSMA and the FDA Produce Safety Rule beneficial.
- Ability to organize and carry out work assignments.
- Ability to file and maintain a good record keeping system.
- Seasoned ability to supervise staff in the Produce Safety Program.
- Seasoned ability to reason and analyze complex situations to respond using sound judgement.
- Ability to comprehend and apply complex laws and regulations in diverse situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
- Ability to make public presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
Education:
|
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in plant science, agriculture, biology, agri-business, criminal justice, or related field.
|
Experience:
|
Experience in fields related to farmers markets, food processing, or safe food handling.
|
Substitutions:
|
Experience with agriculture, produce safety, farmers markets, food processing, or safe food handling on a year for year basis for the required education.
