Position Summary
The Community Gardens Intern will support the North Carolina Botanical Garden’s Community Gardens Program, which includes two sites on the UNC–Chapel Hill campus: the Carolina Community Garden and Edible Campus UNC . These programs promote sustainable agriculture, food access, and experiential learning. Through hands-on participation in garden maintenance—including planting, weeding, harvesting, watering, composting, and mowing—interns will gain experience in summer organic vegetable production and sustainable gardening practices. The position will also support distribution efforts, learning how community gardens address food insecurity and promote equitable access to fresh, healthy food. This internship is primarily outdoors and physically active, with some computer-based work that supports program communication and outreach, including assistance with social media. Interns will also gain experience in team-based collaboration, independent task management, as well as interacting with community members, volunteers, and campus partners in a public-facing program. By the end of the internship, students can expect to: · Develop foundational skills in organic vegetable production and pollinator-friendly gardening · Gain experience managing edible landscapes in community settings · Strengthen communication, time management, and problem-solving skills · Contribute meaningfully to food access and distribution efforts on campus This internship is well suited for students interested in careers related to horticulture, environmental studies, sustainability, food systems, public gardens, or community engagement. - Open to UNC and non- UNC college students

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday – Flexible, but generally: 9:00 – 4:00 with a 1 hour unpaid lunch break, some extended afternoon hours Sunday – Some Sunday afternoon shifts required; hours will be adjusted to accommodate Sunday shifts
